If you have landed here, one of a few things is true. You are a friend we told too eagerly, you are wonderfully curious, or you took a wrong turn on the internet and ended up in Tunis. Whichever it is, welcome.

This page is a working site in its testing phase. We are tightening the typography, teaching the buttons to behave, and arguing politely about headlines. The stories around you are placeholders and old drafts, so treat any news here as yesterday's weather.

Soon this becomes a proper English language paper for Tunisia, the Maghreb and the world. Real reporting, sharp opinion, a culture desk with actual taste, and a guide to living here that arrives in time for the event.
